What is AI Cam and how is it different from normal CCTV?

AI Cam is an AI-powered smart surveillance platform. Traditional CCTV simply records — you only find out about an incident when you review the tape afterwards. AI Cam adds intelligence: your cameras are watched in real time, real threats are picked out and independently checked, and each one is written up with a threat level. You get a rich visual alert the moment something matters, instead of hours of footage nobody is watching.

Do I need to replace my existing cameras?

No. AI Cam works with the standard HD and IP cameras you already own — anything that provides an RTSP stream. Even if your cameras all run through a DVR or NVR recorder box, nothing gets rewired: the recorder keeps recording and showing on your TV, and AI Cam reads the channels you choose over your own network. You add one small local AI device (a mini-PC or Raspberry Pi class box) per site, and it does the detection. There is no rip-and-replace and no proprietary camera to buy.

How does it avoid false alarms?

Raw motion is never enough to alert you on its own — it has to be a real detection first, and you can draw detection zones so streets, skies and corridors are ignored entirely. Every event that gets through is then independently checked, given a threat level, and false positives are suppressed. Cooldown windows on alert rules then make sure the same event never spams you.

What events can it detect?

Detection covers people, vehicles, fire and smoke, intrusion, general motion and loitering. Events are then classified across sixteen types, which also include falls, crowds, zone breaches, packages, animals, weapons, bags, phones and screens. Beyond any fixed list, the AI Watchman judges the scene itself — so a danger nobody wrote a rule for is still reported. Each camera can have its own detection zones and its own detection on/off toggle, so coverage is tuned exactly to each location.

What is the AI Watchman?

An alert rule answers a fixed question: is there a person, a vehicle, a fire? The AI Watchman asks an open one — is anything here wrong? It watches the way a night guard would and reports what it finds, including dangers nobody configured a rule for: someone who has fallen and is not moving, a fight, a weapon, a snake in the yard, a child alone near water, smoke already filling a room. You can give it standing instructions in plain English, such as "watch the kids near the pool" — those are duties added to its watch, never a filter on what else it may report. Findings are rated from low to critical and you set the level that reaches you, with a daily limit and a cooldown you choose so the cost stays predictable.

How will I be alerted?

Alerts arrive by email and push notification with an event thumbnail and an AI-written description. You build alert rules around event type, priority, device, camera and schedule — including business-hours awareness — and the dashboard also gives immediate in-browser audio-visual warnings for critical events.

Can I monitor multiple locations at once?

Yes. Whether you have two offices or fifty warehouses, multiple local AI devices report into one unified cloud dashboard. Device heartbeat monitoring shows you online / offline status across every site in real time.

How is my privacy and data protected?

Each company gets a completely isolated database — your events and clips are fully separated from every other customer. Your raw footage stays on your own premises and is never uploaded. Device communication is encrypted and authenticated over HTTPS, all data and credentials are encrypted at rest with AES-256, and every action is recorded in an audit trail.

Who on my team can access the system?

Access is role-based. Admins have full control of devices, cameras, alerts, settings, API keys and users. Operators manage devices, cameras and alerts and view events, but cannot touch settings or keys. Viewers get read-only access to the dashboard and events.

Can I tell it to watch only part of the camera view?

Yes. Draw a detection zone directly on your camera's own view and only what happens inside it counts. You can also draw ignore-zones over a public road, a neighbour's gate or a busy pavement. A person is judged by where their feet are, so someone walking behind a boundary wall does not trigger a zone in front of it. Zones are applied on the device itself, so anything filtered out never becomes an event, an alert or an AI cost.

Does it recognise faces, and where are the photos stored?

Yes — and it is included on every plan, including the free one. You enrol the people you know (staff, family, regular contractors) and can keep a separate watchlist. Matching happens ON the local device: enrolment photos and face data never leave your premises, and only the result (known, watchlisted or unrecognised) reaches the dashboard. You can then create rules that alert only for strangers, or the instant a watchlisted person appears. The matched name shows on the event and in the alert email. We do not charge for this because it runs on your hardware, not ours.

Can I stop it alerting me during working hours?

Yes. Every alert rule can carry its own time window — pick the days and the from/to times, and the rule stays silent outside them. Windows can run overnight (for example 18:00 to 06:00), and they are evaluated in your own company timezone, not ours. A typical setup is one quiet daytime rule and a strict after-hours rule on the same cameras.

What happens if the internet goes down?

Detection and recording are local, so they keep running with no internet at all. Events detected during an outage are queued on the device and delivered automatically once the connection returns, so nothing is silently lost. Recording continues throughout, and your footage never leaves your premises.

Do I have to buy hardware to start?

No. A spare Android phone or an inexpensive 64-bit Android TV Box like Tanix W2 or X98 Plus (around $23 – $30) can be the AI device — it watches your IP cameras over your network, and if you use a phone with no IP cameras at all it can use its own front and back lenses instead. It needs Android 8 or newer (64-bit OS for TV boxes) and continuous power. For one or two cameras, a TV box or spare phone is often all a site ever needs. When you outgrow it, move up to a used thin client ($27 – $34) or a mini-PC; the cameras, rules and zones stay exactly as they are. There is also a route with no on-site machine at all, where we watch your cameras from our own cloud — ask us and we will set it up.

What happens if my AI device fails?

You are told immediately, by email, browser and app, and the dashboard shows a banner while nothing is watching. For a camera that matters enough, set the same camera up on a second device and mark it a standby copy: if the first device stops reporting for about three minutes, the copy takes over by itself, using the main camera's own rules, zones and hours. It costs nothing while it waits and is never billed as a second camera. When the original comes back it takes the camera again, and there is never more than one of them watching.

Can I watch live from outside without touching my router?

Yes. Live view needs no port-forwarding and no public IP — your device publishes the stream outward to a secure relay, so nothing ever connects inward to your network and no camera is left reachable from the internet. It plays on desktop and in the mobile app with nothing to install, and there is an SD / HD switch for sites on a slow upload. Only the cameras you deliberately switch on are ever published. Live view is an optional add-on and is included on Enterprise.

Where are my recordings kept, and can I watch them back?

On your own device's disk, in your own building. You can play a recording back in your browser and the video travels over your own network rather than through us. Every camera can record differently — clips only, continuously, on its own hours, kept for its own number of days — and recording follows its own schedule, so a camera can film all night whether or not the site is armed. The dashboard shows how much footage each device is holding and how much room is left. If you also want a copy away from the building, off-site cloud clip storage is available as an optional add-on.

Can I keep the yard armed while the house is not?

Yes. Away, Home and Night arm the whole site with one tap, and Auto-Night Arming will arm it overnight even if nobody remembered. On top of that, any individual camera can be told to ignore the site entirely — always armed, or armed only on its own days and hours. So the gate and the yard keep watching while the family moves around indoors, and a shop floor can arm itself at closing time on its own. The dashboard and the app both show how many cameras are armed right now, and flag any camera that nothing is watching at all.

How is AI Cam priced?

Start free with one camera and 10,000 AI credits — no card, no trial clock. From there you pay for two things only: capacity, and services that cost us money per use. Extra cameras are $3/month each and extra devices $5/month, so you add exactly what you have. Live video streaming and off-site cloud clip storage are optional add-ons, priced because each carries a real per-gigabyte cost. AI verification is paid from a credit balance — every account gets 10,000 welcome credits once, and Professional adds 1,000 every month. Need more than that, top-ups start at $20 for 2,500 credits — bought once, never expiring, and they roll over month to month.

What is actually free, and what is the catch?

The free plan covers one camera, on a device of your own, with AI detection, detection zones, face recognition and watchlist, alert scheduling, email and push notification alerts, your own isolated database, 7 days of event history and 10,000 AI verification credits usable for 30 days. After that the credits are held rather than lost — subscribe whenever you like and they come back, added to your plan's own credits. Devices are not counted on any plan, so you can add a second one as a standby on the same camera at no cost. The limits are the honest part: one camera and 7-day history are enough to prove the product on a real door, and a site that needs more cameras or longer history is a site worth paying for.

How do AI credits work?

One credit covers one image analysed. A check is not a single still — the camera sends a short burst of the frames leading up to the trigger, because intent cannot be read from one frozen moment, so at the default of 3 frames a check costs 3 credits. You set that number yourself in Settings, from 1 to 5, and the screen shows the cost as you change it. Detection itself is free and unlimited, so credits are only spent when an event is actually written up and given a threat level. Every account gets 10,000 welcome credits once — at signup on the free plan, or when you subscribe if you skip the free plan entirely. On the free plan they are usable for 30 days; after that they are held on your account rather than lost, and subscribing returns them on top of the 1,000 credits Professional includes every month. Top-ups start at $20 for 2,500 credits and go up to $175 for 45,000 — each one is a single purchase, not a subscription, and the credits never expire. If you run out, detection, alerts and recording all keep working exactly as before — you simply stop getting the AI-written description until your credits are replenished.

Do I get my own database?

Yes, on every plan including the free one. Each company is provisioned its own isolated database — your events, images and enrolled faces are physically separate from every other customer, not rows in a shared table. We do not charge extra for it because we would have to build it that way regardless; data separation is not a feature to upsell.
