How to Make a Password-Protected QR Code
- Open the Text tab at the top of the generator. Password protection works on text, so a note, a set of login details or a link you paste as text can all be protected.
- Type or paste the content. The counter under the box shows how many characters you have used.
- Under Password Protection, choose Offline Encryption or Online Encryption (the difference is explained below).
- Enter a password of at least 4 characters. In Online mode you can also set Max Views and Expires In.
- Click Create Protected QR, then download the code as PNG or SVG. Share the password separately, never next to the printed code.

Both modes use AES-256-GCM encryption and both open a page on iosnack.com that asks for the password when the code is scanned, so the person scanning needs an internet connection. Choose Online when the code should stop working after a few uses or a date, for example a one-time login or a code handed to a delivery rider; choose Offline for a short note you do not want kept in our database (it passes through our server only to be encrypted and, later, decrypted, and the encrypted text travels in the page link).
Sharing Login Details, WiFi and Private Notes
- Username and password for a shared account: put both in the Text tab, protect them in Online mode with an expiry and a small view limit, and send the unlock password over a different channel (a call or a separate WhatsApp message).
- WiFi for guests: the WiFi tab makes a standard WiFi QR code that phones join with one tap, with no password page. That is convenient, but anyone who photographs the code can join, so use a guest network for it.
- Use a long password: 4 characters is the minimum, not a recommendation. In Offline mode the encrypted text travels inside the code, so anyone holding the image can keep guessing, and the unlock page does not limit wrong attempts in either mode; a long passphrase makes guessing impractical.
- No password reset: we cannot recover the content if the password is lost, because only the password can decrypt it.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I make a password-protected QR code for free?
Open the Text tab, type or paste your content, choose Offline Encryption or Online Encryption under Password Protection, enter a password of at least 4 characters and click Create Protected QR. The QR code then opens a page that asks for that password before it shows the content. It is free and needs no sign-up.
What happens when someone scans a password-protected QR code?
Their phone opens a page on iosnack.com that asks for the password. Only after the correct password is entered is the text decrypted and shown, with a Copy button. Links inside the text are shown as text to copy, not as clickable links.
What is the difference between Offline and Online encryption?
Offline puts the encrypted text inside the QR code's link and saves nothing in our database, which limits it to about 500 characters. Online stores the encrypted text on our server, allows up to 5,000 characters and lets you set a maximum number of views (1 to 1,000) and an expiry time from 1 hour to 1 year.
Can I share a username and password or a WiFi password with a QR code?
Yes. Put the login details in the Text tab and protect them with a password you share separately, ideally in Online mode with a view limit and an expiry so the code stops working after use. For guests on your own WiFi, the WiFi tab makes a normal QR code that phones join directly, but anyone who can see that code can join.
Can I recover the content if I forget the password?
No. The content is encrypted with AES-256 using your password, and we cannot reset or reveal it. If you lose the password, create a new QR code.
Is this QR code generator free?
Yes, it is free with no sign-up, including password-protected QR codes.
Do the QR codes expire?
Normal QR codes (links, WiFi, contacts and unprotected text) are static and never expire. A password-protected QR code in Online mode stops working at the expiry time or view limit you set, and both protected modes need iosnack.com to be reachable to unlock the content.
Can I use the QR codes commercially?
Yes, the QR codes you generate are free for personal and commercial use.
