Enter the number without the country code or a leading zero (or paste a full number that starts with +)

It appears in the chat box ready to send. The person can edit it first.

0 / 1000

2. Your link and QR code

Enter a phone number to see your link and QR code.

How to create a WhatsApp link and QR code

  1. Choose the country and type the phone number. A pasted number that starts with + is recognised, and a leading zero is removed for you.
  2. Add a message if you want one. It appears in the chat box when someone opens the link.
  3. Copy the link, press Test to try it, or download the QR code as PNG or SVG.
  4. For a printed sign, set the heading and paper size in the sign section and download it.

How the number goes into the link

WhatsApp wants the full number in international format: the country code first, digits only, and no leading zero. The tool does this for you. The X characters below stand for your own digits.

Country Number as people write it Link
Pakistan0300 XXXXXXXhttps://wa.me/92300XXXXXXX
India098XXXXXXXXhttps://wa.me/9198XXXXXXXX
United Kingdom07XXX XXXXXXhttps://wa.me/447XXXXXXXXX
United States(XXX) XXX-XXXXhttps://wa.me/1XXXXXXXXXX

To send a message to someone without saving them as a contact, use the WhatsApp sender. For a QR code with a logo or your own colours, use the QR code generator, and to let guests join your WiFi with one scan, make a WiFi QR code.

Frequently asked questions

How do I make a WhatsApp QR code?

Enter the number and an optional message, then download the QR code as PNG or SVG. Anyone who scans it with a phone camera opens a WhatsApp chat with that number and your message ready to send. For something you can print and put on a wall or a counter, use the printable sign section.

How do I create a WhatsApp link?

Choose the country, type the phone number and, if you like, a message. The link appears straight away: https://wa.me/ followed by the full number, for example https://wa.me/92300XXXXXXX?text=Hello. Copy it, test it, or download it as a QR code.

What is a wa.me link?

It is WhatsApp's click-to-chat link. https://wa.me/ followed by a phone number in full international format (country code first, digits only, with no plus sign, zeroes, brackets or dashes) opens a chat with that number. Adding ?text= and a URL-encoded message fills in the message box for the person who clicks.

Can I make a link with a message but no phone number?

Yes. Choose "Let the person pick a contact" and write the message. The link looks like https://wa.me/?text=... and WhatsApp shows the person a list of contacts to send the message to.

Does the person need WhatsApp?

The number must be registered with WhatsApp. On a phone the link opens the WhatsApp app, and on a computer it opens WhatsApp Web or the desktop app.

Does the QR code expire or depend on your website?

No. The QR code contains the wa.me link itself, so it keeps working for as long as the number is on WhatsApp, even if this website is offline.

How long can the message be?

A QR code can hold a few thousand characters at most, and letters outside English, such as Urdu, Arabic or Hindi, take more space in a link. If the message is too long for a QR code, the tool tells you and the link itself still works. Shorter messages also make simpler QR codes that scan faster.

Is my number sent to your server?

No. The link and the QR code are made in your browser, so the number and the message never leave your device.

Can I add a logo to the QR code?

This tool makes a plain black and white code, which scans most reliably. If you want a logo or other colours, make a QR code of the link in our QR code generator.

How should I print the sign?

Download the sign as JPG or PNG. It is made at 300 DPI, so print it at 100% (actual size) and switch off "fit to page". Scan it with your own phone before you print many copies.
